Fantasy411: Top 10 players to stash for now
You tinker with your fantasy squad's starting lineup, looking to have the best possible player at every position.
But did you know that your bench could make the difference between ultimate fantasy success or defeat? For those who have the reserve space, stashing premium prospects or injured big leaguers -- guys who can make a difference tomorrow, if not today -- makes a ton of sense. Without further ado, let's review 10 players worth hoarding for the time being.
Justin Bour, first baseman, Marlins
Bour was showing exciting power skills prior to landing on the disabled list on July 25, posting a .914 OPS and compiling 21 homers and 63 RBIs across 301 at-bats. Although he is not due back until September, the lefty slugger has the potential to make a large impact in a short amount of time by shifting the standings in leagues with tight races in the homer and RBI categories.

Matthew Holliday, 1B/OF, Yankees
Holliday was one of the best waiver-wire gems during the initial three months of the season (.877 OPS) before dealing with vertigo and posting a .362 OPS after July 14. Now on the disabled list with a left lumbar strain, the 37-year-old could return later this season and find his top form as part of a lineup that ranks fourth in baseball with 586 runs scored.

Aaron Altherr, outfielder, Phillies
Although Altherr is on the disabled list for the second time this season due to a right hamstring injury, the 26-year-old has shown exciting potential when healthy by hitting .285 with 16 homers across 302 at-bats. And with 18 steals across 729 career plate appearances, Altherr could make a contributions to all five categories when he returns to full health.

Mitch Haniger, outfielder, Mariners
Haniger started the season in breakout fashion, hitting .342 with four homers and 16 RBIs across 79 at-bats before landing on the disabled list on April 26 with an oblique strain. The 26-year-old struggled to find success upon returning on June 11 before landing on the DL a second time, after being hit in the face with a pitch on July 29. Owners in deep-mixed formats can stash Haniger in hopes that he can find his early-season form after an expected mid-August return.

Lewis Brinson, outfielder, Brewers
While Brinson struggled in a pair of brief trials with the Brewers this season (.106/.236/.277 slash line), he cannot fall out of grace in fantasy circles after just 55 plate appearances in the Majors. With plus speed and a lifetime .351/.411/.562 slash line across 455 plate appearances in Triple-A, the youngster could soon get an extended look at the expense of inconsistent center fielder Keon BroxtonConsider in: 15-team mixed leagues
Michael Taylor, outfielder, Nationals
Taylor was emerging as an exciting five-category asset by hitting .278 with 12 homers and 10 steals across 260 plate appearances before landing on the disabled list in early July with an oblique strain. Currently on a rehab assignment, the 26-year-old could reward patient owners by flashing power and speed later this month as part of a Washington lineup that ranks second in the Majors with 614 runs scored.

Luke Weaver, starter, Cardinals
Weaver could be more Major League ready than any starter in the Minors, having logged a 2.64 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in Triple-A this season. And, the right-hander produced a respectable 3.77 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across four appearances (two starts) with the Cardinals in 2017. While Weaver lacks a clear path to the Majors, he could at some point benefit from an injury in a St. Louis rotation that has enjoyed excellent health to this point in the year.

Tyler Glasnow, starter, Pirates
While Glasnow has struggled during his big league opportunities (6.49 ERA, 1.79 WHIP), he should not fall off the fantasy radar. After all, the right-hander owns impressive lifetime statistics (1.99 ERA, 11.8 K/9 rate) in the Minors and has logged a 1.61 ERA with an eye-popping 13.4 K/9 rate across 10 starts in Triple-A since being demoted June 10. Glasnow could make a major impact in the whiffs category if the Bucs decide that he could better help their postseason push than current rotation members Chad Kuhl (4.53 ERA) or Trevor Williams (4.17 ERA).

Brandon McCarthy, starter, Dodgers
Although he is a well-known injury risk who is currently dealing with a blister on his pitching hand, McCarthy has the potential to impact shallow leagues upon returning from the disabled list. With a 3.84 ERA (3.34 FIP) this season, the right-hander has the skills to win plenty of games in front of a Dodgers squad that ranks fifth in baseball in runs scored (575) and third in bullpen ERA (2.99).

Jeurys Familia, reliever, Mets
Familia is on the home stretch from right arm surgery, throwing bullpen sessions and likely on the verge of a rehab assignment. And while the Mets may not use him in the ninth inning for his initial appearances, he will surely return to his closer's role in short order after compiling 84 saves across 2015-16. For owners who still need saves after the wave of recent closer changes, stashing Familia now could pay off during September.
