Who wants to be a millionaire?

Die-hard Cubs fan Beau Thompson has finally done it -- just not in the way you might think.

Thompson is a Madison, Wis., resident, who set out in 2017 to attempt to collect one million Cubs baseball cards. And just like many aspiring millionaires, he hit the trading market to do it ... but by trading cards on eBay rather than trading stocks.

After a seven-year pursuit, Thompson poetically hit the seven-figure mark on Friday. And his one millionth card just might be the granddaddy of them all.

The Chicago Cubs themselves, having taken notice of Thompson’s relentless pursuit, decided to make the milestone day even more significant than Thompson could’ve dreamed, by giving him a custom-made card of himself.

Thompson not only received an MLB-licensed card of himself (the rarest card in the world -- take that, Honus Wagner), but he also got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the team’s series-opening game against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field, which the Cubs ended up winning, 9-7.

All in all, it’s hard to ask for a more iconic day for any fan of the sport. Hard work pays off, and Thompson’s near-decade of pursuit struck gold in a way he may have never thought to be possible.
