Rangers items up for bid at Nadel's annual mental health benefit

May 15th, 2024

ARLINGTON -- Eric Nadel’s dedication to mental health initiatives in Texas has been one of the shining aspects of his time with the Rangers.

The Rangers' legendary radio broadcaster, Nadel has hosted his annual Birthday Benefit Concert at The Kessler Theater in Dallas for 11 years now, and 2024 is no different.

The Eric Nadel Birthday Benefit Concert, which raises funds for various mental health organizations and nonprofits in the DFW area, will take place on Thursday, with all proceeds going to the Grant Halliburton Foundation.

The Grant Halliburton Foundation is a Dallas-based nonprofit that provides mental health education, resources and support to North Texas children, teens and families. The foundation, which was founded in 2006 in memory of a Dallas-area teenager who battled depression before his death at 19, works to help everyone in the Metroplex learn how to recognize and respond to a young person in major distress or suicidal crisis through a variety of avenues, including education, resources, collaboration, and encouragement.

This year’s event will open with Dallas native and Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Leslie Mendelson. Rhett Miller, also a longtime mental health advocate and the front man of the alt-country band Old 97's, will headline the show.

“It’s such a privilege and a pleasure having this event on my actual birthday for the first time,” Nadel said. “And finally Rhett Miller is able to play it after years of schedule conflicts. The Grant Halliburton Foundation has greatly expanded the number of people it reaches, and every dollar we earn in this benefit enables more kids and teachers to learn about how to take care of their mental health and to help others who are struggling.

“I’m also delighted to introduce Leslie Mendelson to our audience for her first ever Kessler show,” he added. “She just sang at Carnegie Hall for the first time on Monday, so this is quite a week for her.”

The event is sold out, but the online auction is live through Thursday at 9 p.m. The benefit will also feature a live and silent auction at the Kessler on the day of the event, with all proceeds going toward the Foundation’s education programs. You can also text "ericnadel" to 243725 to see all the items and make a bid.

A number of Rangers-specific items are up for auction, including tickets to this year’s All-Star Game at Globe Life Field, a private behind-the-scenes tour of the ballpark and a selection of autographed items.

Fans can also bid on dinner with local celebrities, including Nadel; his broadcast partners, Jared Sandler and Matt Hicks; TV announcers Dave Raymond and Emily Jones; and Dallas Morning News reporters Evan Grant and Tim Colishaw.
