Get pumped for season with 'Epic Moments'

July 1st, 2020

Each week leading up to the start of the 2020 season, MLB.com will feature four hours of special content centered around the game's biggest superstars. This series, aptly titled "Epic Moments: Get Ready for 2020," began on Wednesday.

Featuring highlights from reigning Most Valuable Player Award winners to some of the most exciting hitters and dominant pitchers in today's game, the four-hour stream was chock full of must-see moments.

Among the featured stars this week were the reigning MVP winners from each league in Mike Trout and Cody Bellinger, as well as Jacob deGrom, who has taken home back-to-back National League Cy Young Awards. Trout won his third American League MVP Award in 2019, while Bellinger captured his first career MVP honor after previously winning the '17 NL Rookie of the Year Award.

The action also included plenty of highlights from former MVPs Christian Yelich, Bryce Harper and Mookie Betts. Yelich narrowly missed out on winning his second consecutive NL MVP Award last season, finishing as the runner-up to Bellinger after taking home the 2018 honor. Betts, who was traded to the Dodgers this offseason, will be looking to regain his form from '18, while Harper -- who won the '15 NL MVP Award with the Nationals -- is set to begin his second season in Philadelphia.

The reigning Rookie of the Year Award winners -- Pete Alonso and Yordan Álvarez -- also got their moment in the spotlight. Alonso crushed a Major League rookie-record 53 home runs in his debut season for the Mets, while Álvarez racked up 27 homers, 78 RBIs and a 1.067 OPS in just 87 games for the Astros.

Fans also had the chance to relive some of the top 2019 moments from a star-studded group of legacy players in Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette. Tatis burst onto the scene with the Padres last year before a back injury cut short his rookie season, while Guerrero, Biggio and Bichette all debuted with the Blue Jays.

If dominant pitching is more your style, the stream featured two of the most dominant young pitchers in baseball in 25-year-old Walker Buehler and 24-year-old Jack Flaherty. Buehler enjoyed a breakout 2019 season in which he racked up 215 strikeouts over 182 1/3 innings, while Flaherty was absolutely dominant down the stretch, posting a microscopic 0.91 ERA over 15 second-half starts.

Along with that duo, highlights included moments from some of the game's other top arms, including Gerrit Cole, Shane Bieber, Mike Soroka and Lucas Giolito.

As if that wasn't enough, fans were treated to must-see highlights from plenty of the game's other biggest stars, including Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Francisco Lindor, Ronald Acuña Jr., Javier Báez, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Nolan Arenado, Ketel Marte, Tim Anderson and Alex Bregman.
