ARLINGTON -- Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a new father.
Andrus' wife, Cori, gave birth to Elvis Emilio at 1:22 a.m. CT on Thursday. Little Elvis, who weighed 8.1 pounds and measured 20.5 inches in length at birth, and Cori are doing well.
Andrus is on paternity leave, and he is not due back until Saturday.
Martinez optioned to Round Rock
The Rangers have optioned pitcher Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock so that he can go back to starting and provide depth to the rotation. He is expected to start for Round Rock on Sunday vs. Colorado Springs. Texas is expected to make a corresponding roster move before Friday's game against the Angels.
Rangers pay tribute to slain officers
The club will wear blue jerseys on Friday in tribute to the five police officers who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty in downtown Dallas on July 7, 2016. The team will also observe a moment of silence prior to the game, and it is encouraging fans to wear blue as a tribute to these brave officers.
