Edwin Ríos placed on IL with hamstring injury
Dodgers infielder Edwin Ríos was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a left hamstring strain and left-handed reliever Adam Kolarek was recalled ahead of the series opener against the Mariners.
The move came only hours after manager Dave Roberts said that Ríos has a history of hamstring injuries, but this one was “more of a benign episode."
Ríos was injured sliding into second base on a second-inning double in the Dodgers' 8-3 win over the Angels on Sunday. The injury was compounded when Ríos stayed in the game, because his inability to score from second on Matt Beaty’s single cost the Dodgers a run.
Ríos is hitting .276 with a .690 slugging percentage. Six of his eight hits were for extra bases.
• The Dodgers will go with six starting pitchers through the weekend, with Tony Gonsolin getting a second start on Tuesday, followed by Julio Urías, Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Dustin May and Ross Stripling.
