The Rangers placed veteran right-hander Edinson Vólquez on the 45-day injured list with a right oblique strain on Thursday, the club announced. He sustained the injury during the fifth inning of Tuesday night's 4-2 victory over the Mariners at Globe Life Field, during which he was credited with the win.

The injury effectively ends the season for Vólquez, who made the Rangers' active roster after being a non-roster invite to Spring Training. In seven appearances this year, he gave up four runs over 5 2/3 innings (6.35 ERA), though three of those runs came in one outing, on Aug. 4 in Oakland. He was with Texas last season as well, posting a 6.75 ERA over 11 appearances (four starts) in a campaign shortened by an elbow injury.

Vólquez, 37, owns a career record of 95-89 with a 4.45 ERA over 294 appearances, including 273 starts. He has pitched in the Majors for 15 seasons, taking the mound for the Rangers when he made his Major League debut in 2005, and later pitching for the Reds, Padres, Dodgers, Pirates, Royals and Marlins before rejoining the organization that originally signed and developed him.

Prior to returning this season, Vólquez had considered retirement. Since having a second Tommy John surgery in 2017 while with the Marlins, injuries have limited him to just 21 2/3 innings with the Rangers.
