May, Buehler lining up for tandem action
LOS ANGELES -- Along with Walker Buehler, Dustin May will pitch in a simulated game during Wednesday’s voluntary workout, and manager Dave Roberts said it is “certainly a possibility” that they will piggyback in the fifth game of the season, July 28 in Houston.
May is already built up to five innings and will pitch that many on Wednesday. Buehler is scheduled to pitch three innings on Wednesday. Roberts hasn’t confirmed his rotation beyond Opening Day starter Clayton Kershaw.
Buehler has been slow-played during Summer Camp. He has made only one intrasquad game appearance of 2 1/3 innings. Meanwhile, Kershaw, Ross Stripling and Alex Wood have each gone at least five innings in an intrasquad start. Although it hasn’t been officially announced, Stripling picks up the rotation slot that would have gone to David Price, who elected not to pitch this year.
With Julio Urías starting in Monday's exhibition against Arizona (6:40 p.m. PT, live on MLB.TV) , Roberts said Josiah Gray will start Tuesday's tuneup against the Angels (also at 6:40 and live on MLB.TV). Meanwhile on Tuesday, Stripling and Wood will pitch in a simulated game.
Worth noting
• Roberts said Kenley Jansen has been “as good as he can be” during Summer Camp and is “replicating” his cutters of 2017 and '18, despite missing part of camp with COVID-19.
