Josh Hamilton hit four home runs and the 2011 Rangers' strong pitching staff carried them to a five-game victory over the '18 Red Sox in the first round of the MLB Dream Bracket 2 tournament.

The Rangers advance to the Round of 32 and will face the 2002 Angels, who won the franchise’s only World Series that year. On Thursday, the 1996 Rangers topped the '68 Tigers to advance as well. They'll face the 2004 Red Sox next.

The simulated competition, featuring many of the greatest teams in baseball history, is being produced by Out of the Park Baseball 21, MLB's most realistic strategy game (PC and Mac).

The 2011 Rangers had one of the strongest rotations in club history, and it showed in this series. C.J. Wilson, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison were a combined 3-1 with a 3.22 ERA over five starts.

J.D. Martinez led the Red Sox by hitting .400 with two home runs and eight RBIs, but the rest of the lineup wasn't much help. Boston also lost twice with Chris Sale on the mound and once with David Price.

Both teams had Mitch Moreland and Ian Kinsler. The Rangers got the better results from their pair, including the series-winning RBI.

Game 1: Rangers 4, Red Sox 3
Hamilton and Adrián Beltré hit two-run home runs off Sale and the Rangers held a 4-0 lead after five innings. Wilson had a shutout going into the sixth before the Red Sox scored two on RBI singles from Martinez and Brock Holt. Martinez had an RBI single in the eighth off Alexi Ogando before closer Neftalí Feliz finished it off with a scoreless ninth.

Game 2: Rangers 9, Red Sox 3
Price is 1-4 with a 5.52 ERA in five career postseason starts against the Rangers and that spilled over to Dream Bracket 2. The Rangers scored four runs off him in the first inning and Kinsler homered off him in the second. Holland pitched seven scoreless innings before leaving after 97 pitches.

Moreland and Hamilton went deep for the Rangers. Martinez had a three-run home run in the eighth for Boston's only runs.

Game 3: Red Sox 7, Rangers 0
Rick Porcello pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Eduardo Rodriguez finished up the three-hitter for the Red Sox at Globe Life Park. Lewis started for the Rangers and allowed home runs to Christian Vázquez, Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley Jr.

Game 4: Rangers 5, Red Sox 0
Harrison, Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter combined on a five-hit shutout to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead in the series. Home runs from Kinsler and David Murphy led the Rangers' 14-hit attack. Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed four runs in five innings to take the loss.

Game 5: Rangers 5, Red Sox 4
The best game of the series was decided in 10 innings. The Red Sox, with Sale on the mound, took a 4-0 lead on a two-run home run by Steve Pearce in the first, and a third-inning home run from Martinez off Wilson.

The Rangers came back. Kinsler had a two-run single in the fourth and Hamilton tied it with solo home runs in the fifth and the seventh. In the 10th, Beltré and Mike Napoli led off with singles against reliever Craig Kimbrel and Nelson Cruz was hit by a pitch after fouling off two bunt attempts.

Moreland of the 2011 Rangers then hit a sacrifice fly to walk it off.
