Prospects 'Cowboy up' at the Stockyards ahead of Draft in Texas

July 14th, 2024

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Some of the top Draft prospects in baseball took “Cowboy up” to a new level here ahead of the Draft.

The six players in town to attend the MLB Draft came in early to get a tour of the Stockyards, a national historic district in Fort Worth. Cam Caminiti, Jurrangelo Cijntje, Kaelen Culpepper, Braden Montgomery, Christian Moore and JJ Wetherholt -- all potential first-round picks -- got a sense of the fashion, the customs and the flavors of the Stockyards.

The crew began with a stop in The Best Hat Store, where they were all steam-fitted for custom-made cowboy hats.

Leaving the store in style, the half-dozen big league hopefuls headed to East Exchange Avenue to watch a parade unlike any they had seen: the cattle drive that takes place twice a day. It’s no bull -- people line up on both sides of the street to watch a string of majestic cattle, horns and all, saunter down the street, led by cowboys.

The last stop of the tour took the prospects to Paloma Suerte, one of the many restaurants owned by chef Tim Love, who will be on hand at the Draft. They were treated to a cooking lesson, learning how to make their own guacamole, before having tacos made table-side along with a tasty queso-brisket dip.

Next up is the Draft itself. Be sure to tune in to MLB Network and MLB.com, with a preview show starting at 6 p.m. ET and the Cleveland Guardians getting things going with the top pick shortly after 7 p.m. ET, to see where these cowboys… errr… prospects get selected.
