ST. PETERSBURG -- Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have extended the administrative leave for Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán through the conclusion of the 2019 World Series, MLB announced on Wednesday.

Germán was placed on administrative leave under the Joint MLB-MLBPA Domestic Violence Policy last week. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has said that the club was planning for the postseason as though the 27-year-old Germán would not be an active member of the roster.

The Yankees issued the following statement when Germán’s leave was first announced:

“We fully support all measures being undertaken by the Commissioner’s Office pursuant to the Policy on Domestic Violence. We support this policy which reinforces that domestic violence has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated.

“We have followed the lead of Major League Baseball and will continue to provide our complete cooperation throughout the investigative process. We reserve any further comment until the investigation reaches its conclusion. All questions pertaining to this matter should be directed to the Office of the Commissioner.”

The Associated Press reported that Germán is being investigated for an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend. The incident is said to have occurred on Sept. 16 at Germán’s apartment in Yonkers, N.Y. The AP reported that MLB is not aware of any police involvement in the situation.

Germán was a key contributor to the Yankees’ season, posting an 18-4 record with a 4.03 ERA and 153 strikeouts over 143 innings. He will not be permitted to be around the team during his administrative leave period.
