#PuigYourFriend: Rams' Goff gets special gift
LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and Los Angeles Rams first-round pick Jared Goff had buried the hatchet via Twitter back in April, but Rams Night at Dodger Stadium allowed the pair to prove it with a batting practice photo op.
Back in 2013, when Goff was quarterbacking the University of California, the Giants fan tweeted that Puig should get a fastball in the ribs for, apparently, being a Dodger. At the time, Goff didn't realize that three years later the Rams would move to L.A., pick him first overall and he'd be sharing the town with Puig.
For his part, the Dodgers' lightning rod for controversy welcomed Goff with this classy tweet:
True to his tweet, Puig presented Goff with a #PuigMyFriend T-shirt as Goff's teammates -- receiver Pharoh Cooper, linebacker Josh Forrest, tight end Tyler Higbee, tight end Tammerick Hemmingway and receiver Mike Thomas -- took batting practice.
Goff was scheduled to throw out the first pitch before the Dodgers-Rockies game, with Puig catching.
"We made up a long time ago and it was good to talk to him, he's a really cool guy," said Goff. "It's funny, it was something I tweeted when I was 17 years old and it came out now. He thought it was funny."
