Ryu undergoes arthroscopic elbow surgery
Dodgers expect left-hander to be ready for 2017 season
SAN DIEGO -- Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu underwent arthroscopic left elbow surgery on Wednesday.
Ryu has made one start in the last two years for the Dodgers. He missed the entire 2015 season with shoulder labrum surgery, was slow to return this year,
The left elbow debridement performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Wednesday is the same surgery Alex Wood had July 20. The Dodgers said Ryu is expected to be ready for the 2017 season, but the club said he was expected to be ready for the 2016 season after last year's surgery.
His one start this year was on July 7, when he allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings in a 6-0 loss to San Diego.
Ryu made a successful transition from Korea in his first two seasons with the Dodgers, going a combined 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA.
Ryu, 29, is signed through 2018.
