ST. LOUIS -- Cody Bellinger's month of May has been a power display.
The rookie outfielder belted a 429-foot home run into the right-center-field seats in the fourth inning in the Dodgers' 5-1 win over the Cardinals on Monday. Bellinger, playing in just his 32nd game, became the fastest rookie in franchise history to reach 11 home runs.
"It was 3-0, and I got the green light, no one on base, and I had a good feeling, obviously, a fastball was coming, and I tried to put a good swing on it," Bellinger said.
Bellinger's ninth home run in May moved him into a first-place tie with Joc Pederson (May 2015) and James Loney (September 2007) for most homers by a Dodgers rookie in a calendar month.
"It's pretty crazy but [I take it] day by day and game by game," Bellinger said. "I've said it before, every day in the cage, I'm trying to be consistent and keep my load and keep my body right and my mind right."
Bellinger, the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, also homered during the Los Angeles' 9-4 victory over the Cubs on Sunday.

"We're clicking right now, and it makes it easy for everyone when everyone's doing a good job and doing their job," Bellinger said. "Even the pitching staff's been great. It makes it easy on us to get things going."
Bellinger's home run also gave him 27 RBIs in May, moving him into a third-place tie with Dick Cox (August 1925) for most RBIs by a Dodgers rookie in a calendar month, trailing only Loney (32, September 2007) and Del Bissonette (29, June 1928).
"I like him in the batter's box," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "He's got 11 homers now, so with him, anything can happen when he's in the batter's box. Just to take that swing -- and there was a stretch where he was striking out a lot -- but he could still give us good quality at-bats and not be too down on himself, says a lot about his makeup."
Bellinger also showed off his arm in the seventh, keeping the Dodgers' bullpen's scoreless-innings streak intact after Jose Martinez hit a ground ball that went off shortstop Corey Seager's glove and into left field. Paul DeJong, playing in just his second game for the Cardinals, tried to score from second but was thrown out at home on a perfect throw by Bellinger.

"I had a lot of momentum going that way, and I didn't break toward the ball right away," Bellinger said. "If I did that, he probably wouldn't have sent him or it wouldn't have been close, so I've got to work on that a little bit better, but I just tried to throw it as best as I could."
