Dodgers set roster on eve of Tokyo Series opener

TOKYO -- Break out the bunting and get ready for regular-season baseball, Tokyo Dome style. Opening Day is finally here.

Ahead of Tuesday's opener, the Dodgers set their 26-man roster for the two-game Tokyo Series against the Cubs.

First pitch for both games is at 3 a.m. PT/6 a.m. ET. Game 1 will be aired nationally on FOX and Game 2 on FS1, with both also available on SportsNet L.A. and MLB.TV.

There are no real surprises on the Dodgers' active roster, other than the team opting to carry both James Outman and Andy Pages. Here's the full Tokyo Series roster, which can be reset before the team's domestic opener:

Catchers (2): Austin Barnes, Will Smith

Infielders (4): Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Miguel Rojas

Outfielders (4): Michael Conforto, Teoscar Hernández, James Outman, Andy Pages

Utility players (3): Tommy Edman, Kiké Hernández, Chris Taylor

Two-way player (1): Shohei Ohtani

Pitchers (12): Anthony Banda, Ben Casparius, Jack Dreyer, Luis Garcia, Landon Knack, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, Justin Wrobleski, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Kirby Yates

Game 2 starter Sasaki and reliever Garcia, who were in camp as non-roster invitees, were both added to the 40-man roster. In order to clear space, Brusdar Graterol and Michael Grove -- who are both out for the season due to right shoulder surgery -- were placed on the 60-day IL.

Other Dodgers who are sidelined to begin the season include Tony Gonsolin (back tightness), Edgardo Henriquez (left foot fracture), Kyle Hurt (right elbow surgery), Clayton Kershaw (left toe and left knee surgeries), Michael Kopech (right shoulder impingement), Evan Phillips (right rotator cuff strain) and Emmett Sheehan (right elbow surgery). They are all on the 15-day IL.

The Dodgers opted to carry 12 pitchers and 14 position players for the two-game set. It's a sensible move, given that they're already down a position player with Betts missing both games while he recovers from an illness (he's expected to be ready in time for the domestic opener).

Pages is likely to draw both starts in center field with the Cubs sending two left-handed starters to the mound, and Outman will be the only left-handed hitter on the Dodgers' righty-heavy bench.

There aren't any notable omissions here, except for logistical reasons. Both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow pitched in Sunday's 3-0 exhibition loss to the Hanshin Tigers and wouldn't be available for either game, which is why they are not on the roster. Dustin May, who stayed back in Arizona to continue building up as a starter, is also not on the roster.

Hunter Feduccia, who was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, as well as Nick Frasso and Matt Sauer, did not make the cut from the travel roster.
