The Phillies posted a lineup Friday night at Citizens Bank Park without Bryce Harper, Didi Gregorius and Jean Segura.

Then they scratched J.T. Realmuto. The Phillies said he is out with a sore left hand after trying to block a ball Thursday.

They placed Gregorius on the COVID-related injured list. It does not mean Gregorius tested positive for COVID. Players can be held out because of contact tracing or other reasons. Gregorius until recently wore a mask at all times on the field. Earlier this week, he stopped wearing a mask when playing defense.

“The COVID list today was just a precaution on our part, just to make sure he’s OK,” said bench coach Rob Thomson, who managed the Phillies on Friday while manager Joe Girardi attended his daughter’s college graduation. Girardi is expected to be back Saturday night.

Gregorius got hit with a pitch in the right ribs on Wednesday in St. Louis. He did not play on Thursday because of it. Thomson said Gregorius “is a little tender [in the ribs] … but if it wasn’t for the COVID thing, I think he would probably be able to play today.”

The Phillies called up catcher Rafael Marchan, who is the club's No. 5-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, to take Gregorius' place on the roster. They could not call up another infielder because they do not have any more available on the 40-man roster. Segura and Ronald Torreyes already are on the injured list. Segura (strained right quadriceps) is eligible to be activated from the 10-day IL on Saturday. He took batting practice on Friday, and he also fielded ground balls and ran.

“Once he’s done that, we’ll re-evaluate and see where we’re at,” Thomson said.

Torreyes (COVID-19 list) tested positive for COVID, so he has been confined to his hotel room for the past 10 days. He could begin a rehab assignment as early as this weekend.

“We need to get him potentially to Lehigh,” Thomson said.

Marchan’s promotion at least allows the Phillies to use catcher Andrew Knapp earlier in the game as a pinch-hitter, if needed.

Bradley and Moore updates
· Right-hander Archie Bradley (strained left oblique) threw in the outfield before Friday’s game. If it went well, he was scheduled to throw a short bullpen session.

“Then we’ll see where he’s at as far as his progression,” Thomson said.

· Left-hander Matt Moore is back from the COVID-19 injured list, but the Phillies are likely to start right-hander Vince Velasquez on Monday. Moore will pitch out of the bullpen.

“What happens moving forward, I’m not really sure,” Thomson said. “But tonight, he’s available out of the 'pen.”
