Dodgers, Betances agree on Minors deal (report)
The Dodgers’ bullpen got a little deeper Monday, as they agreed to a Minor League deal with reliever Dellin Betances, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club hasn’t confirmed the agreement.
An All-Star from 2014-17, Betances was part of the Yankees' vaunted mid-2010s bullpen, tallying AL Rookie of the Year votes in '14 and Cy Young Award votes in '15.
The past three years haven’t been kind to the New York native, however, as he’s only tallied 13 1/3 innings since 2019 due to right shoulder problems. Betances most recent full season came in '18, when he had a 2.70 ERA over 66 2/3 innings. He left the Yankees after 2019 to sign with the crosstown Mets.
Overall, Betances has a career 2.53 ERA with 633 strikeouts over 394 innings.
When Betances joins the Dodgers’ Major League club, he’ll be another new face in the team’s revamped bullpen. While L.A. lost stalwart closer Kenley Jansen to the Braves and Corey Knebel to the Phillies in free agency, the Dodgers signed Daniel Hudson in the offseason and traded for Craig Kimbrel on Friday.
