LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers received their 2020 World Series championship rings at Friday's home opener, and in a bit of a surprise, David Price was among the players to receive one and take part in the pregame celebrations at Dodger Stadium.

While Price was scheduled to be part of the Dodgers’ rotation following the February 2020 trade with the Red Sox that also brought Mookie Betts to Los Angeles, the veteran left-hander elected not to play last season once that became an option for players due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But despite Price not playing in a regular-season game for the Dodgers last season, the team decided to honor the left-hander and give him his second World Series ring. Price won’t be keeping the ring, however. Instead, he’ll be auctioning it off to the public in order to help raise money for The Players Alliance.

Price has been an instrumental part of The Players Alliance, an organization of current and former Black players that are focused to provide more resources to communities of color in order to “change the trajectory of diversity throughout baseball.”

The full vision, per The Players Alliance website: “To create an inclusive culture within baseball and the community, where differences are leveraged to elevate racial equality and provide greater opportunities for the Black community, both in our game and the places we live in, play in, and care about most.”

The Players Alliance has donated $41.7 million to Black communities since its inception. Over the offseason, The Players Alliance went on a 33-city tour that helped deliver $1 million worth of baseball equipment to communities of color around the country.

Price is back with the Dodgers for the 2021 season. For the first time in his career, the left-hander is coming out of the bullpen after Los Angeles decided to go with 23-year-old Dustin May in the rotation. Price had talked about his willingness to pitch in relief so young starters Julio Urías and May could get more opportunities.
