Guardians in talks to add minority owner
The Guardians have been in the market for a minority owner since John Sherman departed in 2019 to purchase the Kansas City Royals. Now, they may be closing in on filling that void.
On Monday afternoon, Guardians owner and CEO Paul Dolan confirmed a report from Sportico that the team has had discussions with David Blitzer. Sportico reported earlier in the day that Blitzer’s share of the team would be 35%.
“While I can confirm meaningful discussions with David Blitzer about purchasing a minority ownership interest in the Cleveland Guardians, we can’t comment any further," Dolan said.
The role would not be new to Blitzer, who has been a part owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils for the last decade. The Guardians have been adamant that their payroll will increase in 2022 and once again having financial help from a minority owner would be extremely beneficial.
