Swanson gets 2 hits for Rome, could return Fri.
ATLANTA -- Dansby Swanson took a step closer to rejoining the Braves' lineup while recording a pair of hits in Class A Rome's 1-0 win over Asheville on Thursday night at State Mutual Stadium.
Swanson, who has been on the disabled list since May 4 with soreness in his left wrist, went 2-for-4, with singles in the first and fifth innings.
Before Swanson's performance in Rome, Braves manager Brian Snitker said that there is a possibility Swanson could return to Atlanta as early as Friday, for the series opener against the Marlins.
"I don't know how probable that might be," Snitker said on Thursday afternoon. "But there's a chance."
There is also a chance that Swanson will play a second rehab game for Rome before being activated.
Prior to being placed on the DL, Swanson was batting .289 for the season but had been quiet at the plate during the last 10 road games, going 8-for-43 with no extra-base hits.
