D-backs deal Vogt to Braves
PHOENIX -- In what is probably just the first of several moves to come before the July 30 Trade Deadline, the D-backs traded veteran catcher Stephen Vogt to the Braves for Minor League infielder Mason Berne on Friday.
Vogt, 36, was in his second season with the D-backs. He was slashing .212/.307/.386 in 151 plate appearances this year after compiling a .167 average in 81 plate appearances last season.
Berne, 25, was selected by the Braves in the 33rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Berne played in five games this year for the Rookie FCL Braves and was 3-for-12 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks. He did not play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the Minor League season.
In Berne's four years in the Atlanta system, he hit .231 (55-for-221) with a .659 OPS.
