D-backs claim RHP Lewicki off waivers from Tigers
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed RHP Artie Lewicki off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Lewicki (pronounced: loo-wick-ee) is on the 60-day disabled list following Tommy John surgery on August 31.
Lewicki, 26, was 0-2 with a 4.89 ERA (21 ER in 38.2 IP), 14 walks and 30 strikeouts in 13 games (3 starts) with the Tigers in 2018. He also made 12 starts with Triple-A Toledo and went 5-6 with a 4.67 ERA (32 ER in 61.2 IP), 16 walks and 55 strikeouts.
In 2017, the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder tied for seventh among all Minor League pitchers in wins, going 14-4 with a 3.38 ERA (53 ER in 141.0 IP), 31 walks and 123 strikeouts in 25 starts. Lewicki also appeared in 4 games (1 start) with Detroit and was 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA (7 ER in 10.1 IP), 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Lewicki has gone 27-24 with 2 saves, a 3.54 ERA (157 ER in 398.2 IP), 101 walks and 358 strikeouts in 81 games (68 starts) over 5 Minor League seasons in the Tigers' organization (2014-18). He was selected by Detroit in the eighth round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Virginia.
The D-backs' 40-man roster remains at 39.
