Seven D-backs prospects are playing for the Salt River Rafters in the 2019 Arizona Fall League: First baseman Seth Beer (No. 4, MLB No. 96), shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (No. 7), outfielder Jake McCarthy (No. 28), left-hander Miguel Aguilar, right-hander Matt Brill, right-hander Emilio Vargas and left-hander Cody Reed.

Here’s a day-by-day look at how Arizona's AFL contingent is faring:

Oct. 26: Salt River 5, Surprise 1
Seth Beer, batting third and DH-ing for the Rafters, reached base three times in 1-for-3 performance as Salt River defeated Surprise, 5-1, to win this year’s Arizona Fall League title. The D-backs’ No. 4 prospect was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, singled and scored in the fourth inning and later added a walk. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, 20, was one of two Rafters to go hitless on Saturday, as he finished 0-for-5 with two strikeouts from the leadoff spot.

Oct. 25: Salt River 6, Peoria 1
Emilio Vargas tossed three innings of one-run ball to earn the win in his first (and final) start for Salt River. The right-hander allowed three hits, struck out four and did not issue a walk in the outing while throwing 34 of 51 pitches for strikes. He logged a 3.00 ERA across three games, posting nine strikeouts and zero walks in six innings. Jake McCarthy went 0-for-2 but pushed across a run in the fifth inning via a bases-loaded walk.

Oct. 24: Salt River 0, Mesa 0
Seth Beer was one of two Salt River batters to record a two-hit game in a contest that was, on the whole, quiet offensively. The Clemson product hit singles in the seventh and ninth inning to try to help mount game-winning rallies, but the bats largely struggled around him, including that of shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (0-for-3, BB). Miguel Aguilar permitted just one hit paired with two strikeouts in the ninth inning, moving his AFL earned run average to 2.92.

Oct. 23: Glendale 6, Salt River 5
A trio of D-backs prospects paced Salt River’s offense on Wednesday, as Seth Beer, Geraldo Perdomo and Jake McCarthy combined to go 5-for-12 with three RBIs. Beer, Arizona’s No. 4 prospect, hit a two-run triple (104 mph exit velocity) off the center fielder’s glove in the fifth inning and later added a single to finish 2-for-4. He was also hit by a pitch and picked up his first Fall League stolen base in the multihit performance, which pushed his average above the .300 mark (.304). Perdomo is batting .329 after a productive night from the leadoff spot. The 19-year-old shortstop went 1-for-3, but tallied a run and an RBI to go along with a pair of walks. McCarthy went 2-for-5 with his fourth AFL double from the seven spot in the lineup. Matt Brill tossed a scoreless eighth inning out of the Rafters’ bullpen as he lowered his ERA to 0.93.

Oct. 22: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Oct. 21: Salt River 11, Glendale 7
Starting at shortstop and batting leadoff on his 20th birthday, Geraldo Perdomo celebrated the occasion by extending his hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-5 performance. One of his hits was a double, Perdomo’s third in the Fall League, and he also scored the game-tying run in the ninth via a wild pitch after recording the second of Salt River’s three straight hits to open frame. The youngster has been anything but overmatched, slashing .329/.414/.438 with 24 hits and 16 runs scored over 19 games.

Seth Beer plated Royce Lewis with an RBI double in the fifth inning before coming in to score on a wild pitch. He’s batting .292 after finishing 1-for-5. Jake McCarthy went 1-for-5 and scored two runs from the sixth spot in Salt RIver’s lineup.

Miguel Aguilar gave up one run on three hits in the eighth inning, then notched a pair of strikeouts during a perfect ninth to record his first AFL win for Salt River. He struck out three in the outing, while throwing 23 of 33 pitches for strikes.

Oct. 20: Salt River 2, Surprise 1
Jake McCarthy got the start in right field and hit out of the No. 7 spot in the order for the Rafters on Sunday, but finished 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He is, however, batting .268 this fall and did reach via a walk.

Oct. 19: Salt River 8, Surprise 1
Gerardo Perdomo, Arizona’s No. 7 prospect, reached base three times for Salt River from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. The 19-year-old infielder has been anything but overmatched in the Fall League, as Saturday’s multihit performance pushed his average to .324 through 18 games. Seth Beer (No. 4) went hitless in five at-bats, knocking his AFL average down to .300, and outfielder Jake McCarthy finished 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and two apiece. 

Making his third start for Salt River, Cody Reed had a strong first inning but allowed a pair of walks and uncorked a wild pitch in the second. Though he would complete the frame and finish the outing with three strikeouts, the 23-year-old left-hander was replaced by Emilio Vargas in the third inning after throwing only 24 of 45 pitches for strikes. Vargas gave up a solo home run but otherwise pitched well, striking out three over in two innings in his second appearance with the Rafters.

Oct. 18: Peoria 9, Salt River 0
Seth Beer and Jake McCarthy didn't record a hit on Friday, collectively going 0-for-7. Beer went 0-for-4 and committed his fifth error at first base in 15 games, while McCarthy finished 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Left-hander Miguel Aguilar allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in two-thirds of an inning out of the Rafters’ bullpen, and Matt Brill gave up a solo home run to J.J. Matijevic during an otherwise clean ninth inning. It marked the first time in eight Fall League appearances that Brill has been scored upon, and, overall, the right-hander has allowed just five hits while pitching to a 1.04 ERA in 8 2/3 frames.

Oct. 17: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Oct. 16: Salt River 4, Peoria 2
Geraldo Perdomo, Seth Beer and Jake McCarthy all recorded at least one hit in Salt River’s win over Peoria. Perdomo deposited the third pitch of the game over the wall in right center field for his first AFL home run and finished 1-for-4 from the leadoff spot. With a .313 average and .824 OPS through 17 games, the 19-year-old shortstop has been anything but overmatched against advanced competition this fall. Beer scored a run and reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, and McCarthy tallied an RBI single in a 1-for-3 performance. Oct. 15: Scottsdale 2, Salt River 1
Matt Brill, who threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, has yet to allow a run in Arizona. Brill has spun 7 2/3 innings and given up four hits. Miguel Aguilar made a short relief appearance, but did retire each of the two batters he faced. Jake McCarthy went 0-for-3, but has hits in six of his past eight games and is batting .311.

Oct. 14: Scottsdale 6, Salt River 5
Seth Beer hit cleanup for Salt River and played first base, going 2-for-5 with his third double of the AFL season. He’s now hitting .333/.396/.458 over 13 games. Right fielder Jake McCarthy also picked up a couple of hits, going 2-for-4 out of the nine-hole for the Rafters to also bring his average up to .333. But it was Geraldo Perdomo who might have been the most impressive, at the plate at least. The shortstop hit leadoff and laced a pair of doubles and walked twice. Unfortunately, he was thrown out twice trying to steal, once at third and once at second.

Oct. 11: Mesa 3, Salt River 2
Geraldo Perdomo reached base twice from the leadoff spot for Salt River on Friday, going 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Jake McCarthy (No. 28) dropped down a beautiful bunt down the third-base line to lead off the seventh inning. Two batters later, McCarthy was picked off at second base, where he represented the game-tying run.

Cody Reed turned in his best start of the Fall League for the Rafters on Friday as the 26-year-old left-hander allowed one run and struck out seven in three innings. He mixed four hits with a walk and threw 43 of 60 pitches for strikes in the outing. Reed’s ERA sits at 5.00 for the fall, and he’s now struck out 14 batters and walked two in nine innings in four games for the Rafters. Emilio Vargas entered in relief of Reed and recorded a pair of strikeouts during a scoreless fourth inning.

Oct. 10: Mesa 9, Salt River 3
Matt Brill recorded an inning-ending out in a relief appearance for Salt River as he extended his Fall League scoreless streak to 6 1/3 frames. Seth Beer finished 0-for-2, but drew a pair of walks. The D-backs’ No. 4 prospect has impressed offensively thus far in the AFL and is hitting .326.

Oct. 9: Salt River 6, Glendale 2
Jake McCarthy’s first AFL homer was a two-out solo shot to right field that had an exit velocity 102.6 mph and traveled 367 feet. After an injury-plagued regular season, the D-backs’ No. 28 prospect, who went 1-for-3 on Wednesday, owns a .314 average in the Fall League. Seth Beer struck out swinging and grounded out to left side of the infield three times in an 0-for-4 showing. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo fared better, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Miguel Aguilar allowed one run on two hits in the ninth to seal the Rafters’ 6-2 win over Glendale.

Oct. 8: Salt River 11, Glendale 10
Make it five straight scoreless relief outings for Matt Brill, who twirled a perfect eighth with a strikeout for Salt River. In a combined six Fall League innings, the right-hander has allowed only three hits and one walk. Geraldo Perdomo got back in the hit column after going 0-for-4 on Sunday, but a base hit was all he could muster and his average dropped to .288 with his 1-for-6 performance. Jake McCarthy went 0-for-5.

Oct. 7: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Oct. 6: Salt River 6, Surprise 4
Miguel Aguilar put together another solid performance and picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth. Geraldo Perdomo went 0-for-4, but is still hitting .304.

Oct. 5: Peoria 9, Salt River 7
Left fielder Jake McCarthy notched a two-hit game, with both knocks going for extra bases. The 22-year-old tripled in the second inning and doubled in the fifth, but the Rafters were unable to drive him home in either scenario. Seth Beer also posted a multihit game, his fourth in the Fall League, with two singles for Salt River. He drove in a run with one and scored once while improving his average to .378. Geraldo Perdomo singled in a 1-for-3 effort as second baseman.

A shaky first inning set the tone for Cody Reed’s 2 1/3-inning start for Salt River. The 2014 second-round Draft pick allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in the first inning. Those were the only runs he allowed, finishing with five hits vs. two strikeouts on his line while firing 52 pitches (33 strikes).

Oct. 4: Salt River 10, Peoria 9
No. 4 prospect Seth Beer (MLB No. 96) powered Salt River’s offense as the Rafters rallied from an 8-0 deficit to defeat Peoria. Beer hit an RBI single in the third inning and then added a two-run single in the sixth to trim the Javelinas’ lead to one run. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs to improve his Fall League average to .375. Nineteen-year-old shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (D-backs’ No. 7) is batting .333 despite going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.

Right-hander Matt Brill pitched around a hit to record a scoreless inning out of the Rafters’ bullpen. He’s yet to allow a run in five innings (four games) in the Fall League. More >>

Oct. 3: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Oct. 2: Salt River 4, Scottsdale 2
Geraldo Perdomo went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a run from the leadoff spot. Miguel Aguilar locked down his second save of the season, with a perfect ninth inning that included two strikeouts to lower his Fall League ERA to 1.50.

Oct. 1: Salt River 5, Scottsdale 2
Geraldo Perdomo has a hit in all eight games he’s played and is batting .387 after his 1-for-3 effort. The D-backs’ No. 7 prospect also drew a pair of walks. Jake McCarthy went 1-for-4 and has hits in seven of the eight games he’s played. The D-backs’ No. 28 prospect also picked up his fourth stolen base of the AFL and is hitting .348. Seth Beer finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single, and he also scored a run. The club's No. 4 prospect now has five Fall League RBIs.

Sept. 30: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Sept. 29: Salt River 4, Glendale 3
Seth Beer collected a hit and a walk in four plate appearances. The D-backs’ No. 4 prospect, acquired in the Trade Deadline deal involving Zack Greinke, is batting .360 so far in the Fall League. Right-hander Matt Brill pitched a pair of scoreless innings, allowing only a single hit across two frames. He was incredibly efficient, requiring only 16 pitches, 11 of which were strikes, to retire six batters.

Sept. 28: Salt River 10, Mesa 3
Geraldo Perdomo upped his AFL batting average to .393 with a two-hit night for Salt River. Leading off the first for the Rafters, the product of the Dominican Republic sent a scorcher to center field that earned him a triple and later a run scored. He ripped an RBI single in the fifth inning and came around to score, and he also drew a walk. Jake McCarthy hit a double in his 1-for-4 day, knocking in a run on a groundout and scoring once.

Sept. 27: Salt River 6, Mesa 1
No. 4 prospect Seth Beer hit his first homer of the AFL season as a part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate. He scored twice in addition to driving in a pair of runs. The No. 97 prospect in MLB was acquired from the Astros as a part of the Zack Greinke deal at the Trade Deadline, and he hit 26 home runs in his first full season of pro ball after being selected by the Astros in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Geraldo Perdomo set the table for the victorious Rafters, picking up three hits in four at-bats and scoring a run. He’s batting .375 in the Fall League. Jake McCarthy struck out twice but picked up an RBI on a groundout in the fifth inning. He finished 0-for-3. Miguel Aguilar earned the save for Salt River by tossing two scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, issued no walks and picked up a strikeout.

Sept. 26: Glendale 5, Salt River 4
Jake McCarthy had a two-hit day as the Rafters’ left fielder, including a double in the team’s three-run fifth inning. He also scored a run. Seth Beer ended 1-for-4 at the plate, bringing his batting average in five games to .333. Matt Brill pitched a scoreless frame in relief on Thursday, striking out a batter and walking another. He also hit a batter during his time on the mound, which featured 15 pitches, eight of which were for strikes.

Sept. 25: Salt River 8, Glendale 4, postponed due to lightning
D-backs No. 7 prospect Geraldo Perdomo was a catalyst from atop Salt River’s lineup, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. He also picked up his third AFL stolen base before the game was called due to weather.

Sept 24: Salt River 4, Hermosillo 1
Geraldo Perdomo is hitting an even .300 in the Fall League after his 2-for-5 night at the plate. The D-backs’ No. 7 prospect singled in each of his first two at-bats and also scored a run. Seth Beer had his best night of the Fall League so far as he finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and boosted his AFL average to .357. The club's No. 4 prospect struck out in his first trip to the plate, but singled in each of his next three at-bats, including an RBI single in the third inning that had an exit velocity of 103.8 mph. Jake McCarthy, who was 1-for-4 over his two games, got back on track with a 3-for-4 night. Arizona's No. 28 prospect grounded out in his first at-bat and then singled in three straight trips to the plate. He also stole two bases and scored a run.

Sept. 23: Scheduled day off for all Arizona Fall League teams.

Sept. 22: Salt River 11, Scottsdale 4
Matt Peacock threw 35 of his 45 pitches for strikes as he twirled three innings in his Fall League debut. The right-hander struck out four and gave up two runs on five hits. Cody Reed, a second-round pick from the 2014 Draft, was lights out in relief of Peacock. Reed, who threw 17 of his 25 pitches for strikes, struck out three and yielded just one hit as he carved his way through two scoreless frames. Miguel Aguilar closed things out for Salt River and fanned one in a scoreless ninth.

Geraldo Perdomo, batting atop the Salt River lineup, singled and scored on Royce Lewis’ homer in the top of the first and then drove in a run of his own via a sacrifice fly in the second. Perdomo was retired in each of his final three trips to the plate, ending the night 1-for-4.

Sept. 21: Surprise 12, Salt River 0
Geraldo Perdomo had a solid night for Salt River. He finished just 1-for-3, but he also drew a walk and stole a pair of bases. Seth Beer doubled down the right-field line as part of a 1-for-3 night. However, he also made his third error of the Fall League season at first base. Jake McCarthy singled and went 1-for-2. Matt Brill put together a strong inning out of the bullpen. Brill gave up one hit, but that was the extent of the damage as he also struck out one in the scoreless frame.

Sept. 20: Surprise 4, Salt River 1
First baseman Seth Beer singled in his first at-bat and then was retired in each of the next three, finishing 1-for-4.

Sept. 19: Salt River 4, Mesa 1
Geraldo Perdomo set the table for the Rafters, batting in the leadoff spot and opening the game with a single. He was driven in by Rays prospect Vidal Brujan, who homered in the next plate appearance. Perdomo was hitless in his other three at-bats. Jake McCarthy was lifted for a defensive replacement in the sixth inning, and prior to that he went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts. However, he did reach base on one of them via a wild pitch and stole second base. Seth Beer went 0-for-3 at the plate and committed a fielding error at first base.

Sept. 18: Peoria 10, Salt River 6
Fresh off hitting .310 in the postseason and helping the Visalia Rawhide win the Class A Advanced California League title, No. 7 prospect Geraldo Perdomo hit leadoff for the Salt River Rafters. The shortstop went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored, the first of five the Rafters scored in the first inning of an eventual 10-6 loss. Lefty Miguel Aguilar did give up a run on two hits, but he also struck out five in his two innings of work.
