Former top prospect Danny Hultzen is attempting a comeback and has signed a Minor League deal with the Cubs.
Hultzen will make a $600,000 salary if he makes it to the big leagues and his deal includes $150,000 in incentives, according to USA Today. The Chicago Tribune first reported the deal, which the club has not confirmed.
Hultzen, the No. 2 overall pick by the Mariners in the 2011 Draft, hasn't pitched since undergoing shoulder surgery in July 2016. The 28-year-old southpaw had multiple shoulder issues throughout his time in the Seattle organization.
He's pitched just 10 innings in the Minors since rotator cuff surgery in 2014 and spent last season rehabilitating after his latest procedure while finishing his college degree at Virginia.
