CHICAGO -- The mix of Cubs and White Sox fans at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday hardly had time to settle into their seats before Ian Happ put the game’s first run on the board.

Happ crushed a solo homer off Garrett Crochet, which kickstarted the Cubs to a big-time showing against the White Sox All-Star starter. In the Cubs’ 7-6 win on Friday, they tagged Crochet for seven runs on nine hits, including four home runs, in the lefty’s 2 1/3 innings of work.

Along with Happ, Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer in the first inning -- the first homer Crochet has surrendered against a left-handed hitter in his career. Isaac Paredes and Nico Hoerner then added homers in the third, going back to back.

Lefties entered Friday hitting .197 with a .495 OPS against Crochet this season. Bellinger, who finished 3-for-4, had a pair of hits against him. Pete Crow-Armstrong tripled off Crochet as part of his 3-for-4 night.

The Cubs recorded 16 hits, one shy of tying their season high of 17, which was set on July 31 against the Reds, but did not score over the game’s final six innings. They held on after the White Sox loaded the bases in the ninth before Héctor Neris shut the door for his 16th save.
