Hometown shortstop Seager joins All-Star roster
An All-Star Game at the Rangers’ home of Globe Life Field would have felt incomplete without their franchise star. Thankfully, there’s nothing to worry about.
Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was added to Bruce Bochy’s American League roster on Sunday night, replacing the injured Carlos Correa ahead of the 2024 All-Star Game, set to take place in Arlington on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
Seager will join double play partner Marcus Semien and closer Kirby Yates as the Rangers’ representatives at this year’s Midsummer Classic. This is Seager’s fifth All-Star selection, three of which have come during his first three seasons with the Rangers.

In 2022, Seager became the sixth Texas shortstop to make the All-Star Game and the first since Elvis Andrus in 2012. He’s made it every year since. He also becomes the first position player to be rostered in three straight Midsummer Classics for Texas since Josh Hamilton from 2008-12. The last Ranger to earn All-Star selections in three or more consecutive seasons was right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish from 2012-14.
After a slow start to the season in which he hit just .208 in the month of April, Seager has looked more like himself over the last few months. Through 82 games, he’s slashing .272/.356/.484 with 12 homers and a 138 OPS+.
Seager underwent offseason surgery to repair a left sports hernia, causing him to miss all but the final three games of Spring Training, likely contributing to his early-season struggles. But it was only a matter of time until Seager returned to form. Since May 3, he has slashed .303/.385/.596, remaining consistent throughout the Rangers’ offensive struggles this season.
