"We are saddened by the passing of Dick Groat, but what a remarkable life he lived. He was a Duke baseball and basketball legend, leading the Blue Devils to the College World Series before playing in the NBA and forging a stellar career in Major League Baseball. He followed that with a 40-year career as a University of Pittsburgh basketball announcer when he wasn’t operating his golf club. He was a complete joy to be around at his 2011 induction, as was his daughter, Allison. We wish comfort for the entire Groat family, as well as the Duke University and University of Pittsburgh athletic families."
