Cleveland takes RBI softball crown

A team from the Cleveland Baseball Federation won this year's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Softball World Series on Sunday, securing the title by beating the Houston Astros RBI club, 3-0.

It was the Cleveland program's first championship in its seventh consecutive appearance in the softball division. It's also the first RBI World Series championship in any division for the program.

Cleveland pitcher Andrea Scali was named the championship game MVP after striking out 12 while allowing just two hits in seven shutout innings. She also drove in two runs with a single and a double. Over the entire tournament, Scali went 5-0 with a 0.22 ERA and 54 strikeouts.

A 30-minute documentary about the softball division of the tournament will air on MLB Network at 11 a.m. on Aug. 30.

The baseball portion of the RBI World Series will begin on Tuesday at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
