LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers are moving up Clayton Kershaw's start from Wednesday to Tuesday, manager Dave Roberts announced on Sunday.
Kershaw was originally set to start Wednesday in San Francisco, but the Dodgers decided to skip Hyun-Jin Ryu's turn in the rotation Monday. Kenta Maeda will now start the series opener vs. the Giants.
The Dodgers have been using a six-man rotation since the start of their 17-game stretch to give each starter an extra day of rest. Roberts said Ryu feels fine, but the club wanted to give him a rest to keep him healthy down the stretch and for next season.
Ryu is coming off arthroscopic elbow surgery that ended his 2016 season, and the southpaw also missed all of 2015 with shoulder surgery. The lefty has made 21 starts and one relief appearance, his most work since starting 26 games in 2014.
The Dodgers have not decided who will start Wednesday. Alex Wood started after Kershaw the last time through the rotation.
Kershaw is now in line to start in the Dodgers' Sept. 17 series finale vs. the Nationals, who were five games back of the Dodgers for the best record in baseball entering Sunday.

• Roberts said he anticipates Adrian Gonzalez getting a start at first base in one of their three games vs. the Giants. Gonzalez received an epidural on Friday for lingering back pain.
