'Beat traffic': Yeli, teammates ride subway to opener
NEW YORK -- One of the great things about baseball in New York is, you can always take the train to the game.
So that's exactly what Christian Yelich, Rhys Hoskins and several other Brewers did on Opening Day.
Yelich, Hoskins, Brice Turang and Hoby Milner all took the subway to the Brewers' season opener against the Mets at Citi Field on Friday. Yelich posted the photos of their commute to his Instagram.
Yelich and Hoskins have been playing the Mets for years -- Yelich spent his first five seasons with one NL East rival, the Marlins, and Hoskins spent his first six seasons with another, the Phillies, before signing with Milwaukee for 2024. So of course both of them know well that the 7 train runs from Midtown Manhattan right to Citi Field in Queens.
The subway got all four Brewers to the stadium in plenty of time before first pitch at 1:40 p.m. ET.
"Beat traffic this morning," Yelich wrote in his post. "Happy Opening Day."
A few hours later, Yelich launched a leadoff homer in the fourth inning to give the Brewers their first run of 2024.
