MINNEAPOLIS -- led off the ninth inning with a home run to break a tie and give the Twins a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Astros on Sunday at Target Field.

Vázquez drove a low, full-count sinker over the left-field wall against Houston closer Josh Hader.

The Astros struck first with a pair of runs in the second. Jon Singleton led off with a single, and after Mauricio Dubón flew out, Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick drew walks to load the bases.

Twins left fielder Matt Wallner made a nice running catch in the corner to retire César Salazar, but a run scored on the play. Jose Altuve singled home a second run.

Otherwise, Simeon Woods Richardson was in cruise control. In fact, Altuve’s single was the last baserunner he would allow -- he retired the final 13 batters he faced.

The Twins cut the Astros’ lead in half in the second when Byron Buxton laced a one-out single to right-center, moved to second when Wallner came back from an 0-2 count to work a walk, and scored on Vázquez’s single.

Brooks Lee and Wallner started the fourth with singles, putting runners on the corners. Vázquez hit a chopper to third, freezing Lee momentarily. When Alex Bregman threw to second base for the forceout, Lee broke for home. Altuve’s throw to the plate was in the dirt, and as Salazar struggled to corral it, Lee slid across with the tying run.

Both teams missed a golden opportunity to break the tie in the eighth. Astros pinch hitter Joey Loperfido led off with a bloop double to left off Griffin Jax. But Jax rallied to retire the next three hitters, including strikeouts of Altuve and Bregman, to leave Loperfido stranded at second.

In the bottom half, reliever Ryan Pressly walked Max Kepler, and Buxton followed with a dribbler in front of the plate that he beat out for a single. But Lee hit into a double play and Manuel Margot grounded out to short to end the threat.
