July 24th, 2019

Bill Center, longtime sportswriter for U-T San Diego, is an employee of the Padres.

Tuesday was the first time right-hander had given up as many as three runs in a start since returning to the Padres’ rotation on June 22.

In five starts since his return, Paddack is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA and a 0.818 WHIP -- giving up seven runs on 16 hits and eight walks with 27 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings. Those numbers are closer to the 4-2 record and 1.93 ERA he managed through the first nine starts of his Major League career.

The Padres are 10-7 in Paddack’s 17 starts this season. The rookie has seven quality starts.
