Sox place Beckham, Keppinger on disabled list
Moves get club down to 25-man roster limit for Opening Day
The White Sox officially set their Opening Day roster on Sunday, placing second baseman Gordon Beckham (left oblique) and infielder Jeff Keppinger (right shoulder impingement) on the 15-day disabled list. Both moves are retroactive to March 21.
The moves, which were both expected following Friday's series of roster moves, reduce the White Sox active roster to the necessary 25 players.
Beckham, the White Sox Opening Day second baseman from 2010-13, appeared in 10 Cactus League games, but last played on March 14. He had been hoping to be ready for the start of the season, but it became clear on Friday that he would indeed start the season on the DL.
Both Beckham and Keppinger will be eligible to return on April 5. For the time being, Marcus Semien will start at second base, while Leury Garcia will fill the utility infielder role.
