No. 4 Draft prospect slugs a hat trick of homers for Georgia

Another college baseball season is underway, and right on cue, Charlie Condon is flexing his homer-hitting muscles.

The No. 4 prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft according to MLB Pipeline walloped three homers in the University of Georgia's 19-6 loss to Michigan State on Wednesday. Condon became the first Bulldog to achieve the trifecta since April 14, 2023, when none other than Condon himself hit three homers vs. Florida during his freshman campaign. (He is one of just 11 players in school history to notch a single-game three-homer performance.)

Condon's 2023 season included a lot more than just that three-homer launch session. He finished the year with a .386/.484/.800 slash line and 25 big flies, setting an SEC freshman record while leading the conference in slugging percentage. That prodigious power display put him firmly near the top of 2024 Draft boards, even before the blistering start to his sophomore campaign.

The Marietta, Ga., native has upped the ante in his second second mashing on campus in Athens. In his first nine games of 2024, Condon boasts an otherworldly .639/.696/1.417 slash line and has socked seven homers. The redshirt sophomore has recorded two or more hits in every contest this season and his 23 knocks are the most among all NCAA Division I players through play Wednesday.

All three of the the 20-year-old's homers came in the first four innings and were resounding shots. His two-run homer off the batter's eye in center field in the first inning kicked off the scoring for the Bulldogs. After pulling his second roundtripper of the game to left, he flashed his 60-grade power yet again in the fourth, going the other way and taking aim at the scoreboard in right.

Condon added a walk to his three-homer night and finished the contest with four RBIs.

The top of the 2024 MLB Draft projects to be dominated by offensive collegiate players. Of the Top 10 prospects, nine are collegians and three of the top five see time at first base. This puts Condon in a position to have plenty of helium before the Draft board gets filled in this July.
