Red Sox hire Tracy as Worcester manager

December 13th, 2021

The Red Sox filled their managerial vacancy for Triple-A Worcester by announcing the hiring of Chad Tracy on Monday. Tracy replaces Billy McMillon, who held the post for the previous three seasons.

The 36-year-old Tracy joins the Red Sox’s organization after spending the last seven seasons with the Angels, including managerial stints for Low-A Burlington (2015) and High-A Inland Empire (2016-17). For the past four years, Tracey was the Angels’ Minor League field coordinator.

Tracy’s father, Jim, was a Major League manager for 11 seasons. In fact, current Red Sox manager Alex Cora played for the elder Tracy with the Dodgers from 2001-04.

Chad Tracy played 857 games in the Minor Leagues over the course of eight seasons, hitting .265 with 127 homers.

In addition to the hiring of Tracy, the Sox also announced that José David Flores will serve as bench coach for Worcester.

The 50-year-old has more than 20 years of experience as a coach and manager, including Major League stints with the Phillies (first-base coach/infield instructor in 2018) and Orioles (third-base coach/infield instructor in ’19-20).

Mike Monville, who was a coach for Worcester in 2021, has also been elevated to assistant hitting coach. Paul Abbott (pitching coach) and former Red Sox All-Star catcher Rich Gedman (hitting coach) will remain in their roles for the WooSox.
