Braves beat D-backs on Maybin's walk-off HR
ATLANTA -- Cameron Maybin led off the 10th inning with a home run to left field on a 1-2 pitch from David Hernandez as the Braves walked off on the D-backs, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Turner Field.
"It was a big win," Maybin said. "Shelby [Miller] again goes out and does a great job and gave us a chance to win and everything. We did a great job of competing and grinding and I was able to put a good swing on a tough two-strike pitch, just trying to put a ball in play, give Nick [Swisher] and A.J. [Pierzynski] a chance to drive somebody in and I got rewarded for not trying to do too much."

Braves starter Shelby Miller had a no-hitter through the first seven innings before Nick Ahmed blooped an 0-2 cut fastball into right for the D-backs' first hit. Pinch-hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia followed with a sharp single up the middle, which put runners on the corners and spelled the end of Miller's afternoon, which included four walks and 10 strikeouts.

"He had good stuff today," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of Miller. "He had no-hit stuff. I'm just happy we were able to not get no-hit there."
The D-backs tied the game when Ender Inciarte followed the singles by grounding into a fielder's choice off Ross Detwiler allowing Ahmed to score from third.

The Braves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Jace Peterson scored from third on Michael Bourn's grounder to short that was booted by Ahmed.
It is the second no-hit bid Miller has lost this season. On May 17 in Miami, Miller was one out short of a no-hitter until Justin Bour singled to break it up. Miller finished that game with a two-hitter, and it was the last victory for the Braves' right-hander.
"You know what's going on the whole time kind of thing, but I'm going out there every time and I'm trying to put up zeros," said Miller. "At the end of the day, we've got to win."

Bourn and Miller flash leather: Miller's no-hit bid included a pair of sparkling defensive plays, the first from Bourn with two on and one out in the first inning, diving to make a catch on David Peralta in foul territory. Rubby has quality outing: Though he was overshadowed by Miller's near no-no, D-backs starter Rubby De La Rosa pitched well in holding the Braves to one run over seven innings. The right-hander allowed seven hits and walked four, but managed to pitch his way out of trouble throughout.
"I felt good today," De La Rosa said. "I was being aggressive with hitters and threw a lot of strikes. I was trying to paint the zone as much as I could." More >

Braves scratch out a run for Miller: Lack of run support has played a major factor in Miller's 16-start winless streak. Atlanta has now scored a total of 15 runs during that stretch. With Miller's no-hit bid still alive in the fifth, the Braves loaded the bases when Miller drew a walk. Ahmed misplayed a Bourn grounder to short, allowing Peterson to score the Braves' lone run. D-backs: The D-backs open up a three-game series with the Pirates on Monday at PNC Park with Jeremy Hellickson on the mound at 4:05 p.m. PT. The right-hander had his best outing in an Arizona uniform last time out when he held the Phillies to one unearned run over eight innings.
Braves: The Braves head to San Diego to kick off a six-game road trip on Monday with a three-game set against the Padres. Braves righty Williams Perez will take the hill for Atlanta in a 10:10 p.m. ET start, and Colin Rea will make his second career start for the Padres.
