Cam Bedrosian’s father, Steve, won the National League Cy Young Award with the Phillies in 1987, but Cam has been to Philadelphia only once in his life.

He attended an Eagles game a few years ago with former Angels teammate Mike Trout.

Bedrosian will get to experience Phillies fans and Philadelphia again soon enough. The Phillies selected his contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, when rosters expanded to 28 players. Bedrosian, 29, signed a Minor League contract with the Phillies on July 7 after pitching earlier this season with the A’s and Reds. He went 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 16 appearances with Lehigh Valley, striking out 20 and walking seven in 20 innings. He is 17-13 with a 3.79 ERA and nine saves in 300 appearances over eight seasons with the Angels, A’s and Reds.

Bedrosian's big league experience should present him opportunities to pitch in high-leverage situations for Phillies manager Joe Girardi as they try to catch the Braves in the National League East.

“I’ve been down in Lehigh working on a few things,” Bedrosian said. “I think right now I’m in a pretty good spot.”

If Bedrosian pitches for Philadelphia, the Bedrosians would become the third father-son duo to play for the Phillies, joining Ruben Amaro Sr. and Ruben Amaro Jr. and Mark Leiter and Mark Leiter Jr. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, there has never been a father-son duo to pitch for the same team with one of the two winning a Cy Young Award with that team.

“I know my dad always loved his time here in Philly,” Bedrosian said. “He always talked about it.”

But as with any kid, Bedrosian's dad was just his dad. Not Mr. Cy Young Winner.

“It took a little while to figure out that he won the Cy Young,” Bedrosian said. “After a while you step back and -- wow -- he won the Cy Young, which was really awesome. So that was kind of the inspiration. He always pushed me to be my own person.”

The award sits in his father’s office back home in Georgia.
