PHILADELPHIA -- Baseball is a game for fathers and sons.

Look no further than what Phillies fan Geoff Crawley did this week, flying cross country from Washington, D.C., to San Diego to watch Games 1-2 of the National League Championship Series because it was more cost effective than acquiring tickets this weekend at Citizens Bank Park.

Crawley, who lost his father to cancer in July, placed a sweatshirt with his dad's high school graduation photo on the seat next to him at Petco Park. According to his Twitter account, Crawley was able to use loyalty points for his airfare and hotel.

His story caught the attention of Phillies infielder Bryson Stott via an Instagram post on Thursday night. It hit close to home for Stott, whose best friend Cooper died of leukemia in 2016.

"It just sucks what he's going through, and it kind of being relatively not too long ago," Stott told MLB.com. "It sounds like they like coming to the games and watching all the games. So for a fan to go all the way to California [to] watch us is cool. He lives in D.C., so not a far train ride [to Philadelphia]."

Stott decided to take action, reaching out via Twitter direct message and securing tickets to NLCS Games 4-5 for Crawley through his allotment. Stott wasn't sure whether he would be able to meet Crawley, since he'd be preparing for the games and has family in attendance.

Regardless, the 25-year-old rookie has a new fan.

Per his Twitter account, Crawley intended to break tradition and wear a Bake McBride jersey for Game 3, then buy a Stott jersey in Philadelphia for Games 4-5.

"They support us every single day and to be able to do something, some people might think it's not a big deal, but to him, it's going to make, I'm sure, his weekend," Stott said. "And that's all you can hope for, is to put a smile on someone's face. Like I said, it was easy for me."

Stott doubled in each of his first two at-bats of Philadelphia's 4-2 win in Game 3 on Friday night, making him the first rookie in Phillies history with multiple extra-base hits in a postseason game. In the bottom of the fourth, he scored on Jean Segura's two-run single. The victory gave the Phils a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

When Crawley entered the ballpark for Game 4 on Saturday, the Phillies had a surprise for him: a jersey with his father's name and birth year.
