Bryce changed NFL allegiance after move for 'work thing'
Phillies superstar switched sides on NFL rivalry after moving to Philadelphia
"I was a Cowboys fan. And then, I moved to Philly."
The Cowboys and Eagles share an age-old NFL rivalry. You'd be hard-pressed to find partisans on one side or the other switching allegiances.
But there's a prominent Philadelphia resident who has done just that. It's evidenced by the above statement, which Phillies superstar Bryce Harper made as part of an opening montage for Sunday night's Eagles-Cowboys matchup on NBC.
"Kind of a work thing," Harper said. "If you know my city, you know what the Eagles mean to us."
And we know what Harper means to Philadelphia. Since signing a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies in 2019, he's posted a .931 OPS, slugged 122 home runs, won his second National League MVP Award and led the Phils to their first pennant in 14 years in 2022.
Harper has done it all while wearing his love for his city on his sleeve ... or his head or his cleats. So when he says he loves the Eagles, you know he does so with a passion.
The Philly star who was once mesmerized by the Dallas star on the Cowboys' helmet is surely happy with how the Eagles entered Sunday night's showdown -- Philadelphia boasted an NFL-best record of 10-2 before taking on the 9-3 Cowboys.
"All the history, all the memories," Harper said of the rivalry. "Believe me, as an athlete, when you become part of that, you get consumed by it."
