Sibling revelry: Uptons hit 100th HRs on same night

Sharing is a necessary part of brotherhood, and that's what B.J. and Justin Upton have done with a home run milestone.

The Uptons belted the 100th homers of their respective careers on Friday night, becoming the first siblings to reach that mark on the same day, and the sixth pair overall.

"I just texted him, actually. He said he got his before mine. It's all good, man," B.J. Upton said after Friday's game. "It's good to do that on the same day."

The D-backs' Justin Upton, the first overall pick of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, was selected three years after the Rays took B.J. second overall. But the 24-year-old climbed to the 100-homer plateau earlier than his 27-year-old brother -- by less than a hour.

At roughly 7:21 p.m. ET, with the game at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park in the second inning, Justin hit a rocket into the left-field seats off Kyle Kendrick. At Tampa Bay's Tropicana Field, B.J. followed at about 8:16 p.m., with a fourth-inning shot to center field off the Orioles' Tommy Hunter.

"If I got there one minute before even, I still got there first," joked Justin Upton.

Both home runs were instrumental in victory, with the D-backs winning, 4-2, and the Rays coming out on top, 2-0.

While the Uptons parents are in Las Vegas, B.J. Upton knows they were getting updates on their phones.

"They were always hard on us, but hard when they needed to be and hard on us the right way," B.J. Upton said. "That definitely plays into what I do out here and the person I am. I have nobody but them to thank, and I appreciate everything they've done for me."

It was the 13th time in their careers that the Uptons have homered on the same day, including 10 times since the start of last season. In fact, they both connected for their 99th on July 20, with Justin taking the Astros' Bud Norris deep in Phoenix and B.J. touching up the Mariners' Hisashi Iwakuma in Tampa.

According to ESPN, five other pairs of brothers have each hit 100 career homers: Roberto and Sandy Alomar, Aaron and Bret Boone, Clete and Ken Boyer, Joe and Vince DiMaggio, and Bob and Irish Meusel.

While both players knew they were close to the century mark, neither really talked to the other about it. However, that didn't stop them from appreciating the accomplishment.

"It was cool," Justin Upton said. "I'm happy for him. ... It's a cool night for my family."
