Chat up Crew on Zoom in Blue-Gold Series

July 15th, 2020

MILWAUKEE -- After Christian Yelich set a high bar for candidness when he was mic’d for the Brewers.com live stream of Tuesday’s intrasquad game, fans will get to hear what Brent Suter has to say.

The Brewers are streaming their so-called “Blue-Gold Series” all week, and Suter has agreed to wear an earpiece and microphone for Game 2 on Wednesday. President of baseball operations David Stearns will also take part in the stream, which begins at 6:30 p.m. CT. Keston Hiura was also originally scheduled to be mic'd up, but he was scratched before the game with right arm fatigue.

And for the second straight night, fans will take part, too. The Brewers say fans submitted more than 500 questions for Yelich via Zoom during Tuesday’s game, so they are hosting another such session for up to 1,000 participants at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, with an insider’s view of the broadcast booth and a chance to ask questions of Stearns and Suter.

Yelich was rather straightforward on Tuesday about his performance so far in Summer Camp, which included three strikeouts in Tuesday’s game against Brewers ace Brandon Woodruff.

“I’ve [stunk] so far,” Yelich told viewers. “I’m trying to figure it out on a live broadcast. It has nothing to do with the microphone. It’s all on me for being late at the plate. That’s what you get in The Show.”

He even heard boos, though they were of the recorded variety. The Brewers’ scoreboard crew was testing crowd noise for the first time on Tuesday, and they rained down boos on Yelich during his second at-bat.

“Am I at Wrigley or what?” Yelich said.

The Brewers' television team of Brian Anderson, Bill Schroeder and Sophia Minnaert have the call on live streams through Thursday. On Friday, radio announcers Jeff Levering and Lane Grindle are scheduled to call the action.

To access the Zoom element of the broadcast, go to https://brewers.zoom.us/j/92161616029. The first 1,000 fans will get in, and the Q&A function will be open to submit questions. Anderson will go to the submissions to ask questions during in-game conversations with Stearns and Suter.
