OAKLAND -- Brent Rooker was not named to the All-Star Game when starters were unveiled earlier this week. If he’s going to make it to the Midsummer Classic for a second straight year, he’ll have to earn his way in through the player ballot, which he did in 2023.

Rooker boosted his case on Thursday. In Oakland’s 5-0 victory over the Angels at the Coliseum to secure a three-game sweep, the slugger went 2-for-3 and reached base three times, keying a three-run third inning with an RBI single.

For the series, Rooker went 6-for-10 with a pair of homers and three RBIs. After Thursday, his batting average of .273 is the highest it has been since June 5.

JP Sears set the tone on the mound with five scoreless innings on two hits and one walk with six strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the year. The bullpen then tossed four scoreless frames as Oakland shut out the Angels in back-to-back games.
