DENVER -- Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers, the organization’s top prospect according to MLB Pipeline, underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday to repair a torn right labrum, the club announced.

Rodgers went to the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 24, with what the club announced was a right shoulder impingement. The surgery, conducted in New York by noted surgeon David Altchek, came as a surprise. When the club was in Arizona for its final series before the All-Star break, Rodgers joined the team and continued his physical rehab.

Before the Rockies made their announcement, Rodgers shared the news on his private Instagram account:

“@brendanrod_3 Feeling pain today so I can feel strength tomorrow. Ready to turn this into my greatest comeback yet. See you in 2020.”

Rodgers, 22, batted .224 in 25 games during two promotions to the Majors before suffering the injury while making a throw during a June 23 game at Los Angeles.

Oh’s season is over

Righty Seunghwan Oh will undergo a cleanup procedure on his right elbow that will end his season, Rockies manager Bud Black announced.

Oh, who was acquired before last year’s Trade Deadline and helped the Rockies to the postseason, struggled this year (3-1, 9.33 ERA in 21 games) before going to the 10-day injured list on June 10 with a left abdominal strain. After rehabbing that injury, Oh faced hitters at Coors Field two weeks ago. But nothing was scheduled beyond that, and Black revealed the elbow injury Tuesday.

Black said the arthroscopic surgery will take place in Oh’s native Korea. Oh, who turned 37 on Monday, is in the final year of his contract.
