Yankees ink Brad Miller to Minors deal
ANAHEIM -- The injury-ravaged Yankees added organizational depth Monday, signing infielder Brad Miller to a Minor League contract.
Miller played in 13 games for the Indians this season before being designated for assignment and clearing waivers, at which point Cleveland granted the 29-year-old his unconditional release.
The left-handed hitter made all 13 appearances (12 starts) at second base prior to Jason Kipnis' return from the injured list. Miller batted .250 (9-for-36) with four runs, three doubles, a homer, four RBIs, four walks and one stolen base.
Miller is expected to report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and would be available in the event of another injury. He also provides an option should the Yankees decide to make a move involving utility infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade, who has collected five hits through 24 at-bats (.208).
An Orlando, Fla., native, Miller has made a majority of his career starts at shortstop (375 games, 350 starts) but has started at every infield and outfield spot.
Miller is a career .240 hitter (542-for-2,263) in 693 games across seven Major League seasons with the Mariners (2013-15), Rays (2016-18), Brewers (2018) and Cleveland (2019).
