Witt hits 13th homer, tallies trio of hits
Bobby Witt Jr., the Royals' No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline (No. 7 overall) had a big night at the plate in Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 5-4 loss to Springfield on Saturday night. Witt went 3-for-4 with a double and his 13th homer of the season in just his 50th game of 2021.
The homer was a solo shot that came in the first inning off Springfield left-hander Kevin McGovern. With his performance Saturday, Witt is hitting .299 with a .928 OPS in his first Double-A season after making the jump all the way from Rookie ball in 2019 (the 2020 Minor League season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
At this rate, we could see the 21-year-old infielder in the Majors sooner rather than later as he continues his impressive ascent through the Royals' farm system.
