LATEST INJURIES
RHP Ryan Burr
Injury: Right shoulder fatigue
Expected return: In time for Opening Day
Status: Burr hasn’t appeared in a Grapefruit League game this spring, but he is doing light throwing and could return to action as soon as next week. (Updated March 8)
RHP Erik Swanson
Injury: Elbow discomfort
Expected return: April
Status: Had some imaging tests, per manager John Schneider, who noted the problem arose during a March 4 bullpen session. Readiness for Opening Day is in doubt. (Updated March 7)
IF Josh Kasevich
Injury: Lower back stress reaction
Expected return: Potentially late April/early May
Status: Out "multiple weeks" after imaging tests revealed the diagnosis when the infielder's back began flaring up. Will rehab and rest before working out again. (Updated March 7)
CF Daulton Varsho
Injury: Right rotator cuff surgery
Expected return: Early 2025; Opening Day in question
Status: Varsho has played in two spring games as a DH and homered in both, but his throwing is still the final hurdle. The next step is for Varsho to throw to bases from the outfield, simulating a game. (Updated March 3)
RHP Alek Manoah
Injury: Right UCL surgery
Expected return: Midseason 2025
Status: Manoah's recovery has been steady and all news has been positive, so the big right-hander is positioning himself for a comeback story in the second half of the season, similar to what Hyun Jin Ryu did down the stretch in 2023. (Updated Feb. 13)
LHP Ricky Tiedemann
Injury: Tommy John surgery (left elbow)
Expected return: Potentially late 2025
Status: Tiedemann has physical gifts few prospects do, but he has battled injuries, and this recovery is his biggest challenge yet. If he gets back into game action by the end of the 2025 season, that's a success. (Updated Feb. 13)
