CHICAGO -- Outfielder Billy Hamilton is returning to the White Sox via a Minor League deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Saturday.

The club has not confirmed the deal.

Hamilton, 32, played 71 games for the White Sox in 2021 and had his share of contributions in the team’s American League Central title. The fleet-footed former switch-hitter had eight doubles, three triples, two home runs, 23 runs scored and nine stolen bases for the South Siders, while playing solid defense across the outfield and serving as an energetic clubhouse presence.

In 2022, Hamilton split his time between the Marlins and Twins, finishing with 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts over 37 games. He joins outfielder Victor Reyes, another veteran switch-hitter, among the White Sox non-roster invitees who have not yet been announced. Catchers Sebastian Rivero and Xavier Fernández also could be on this list, having agreed to Minor League deals, according to the team’s transaction page.

The White Sox already have non-tendered veteran Adam Engel, a Gold Glove-caliber outfielder who hits from the right side. So they will look for help with only one pure outfielder currently on their 40-man in Luis Robert, although Andrew Benintendi is joining the team on a five-year, $75 million free agent deal according to a source. Oscar Colas, the No. 2 White Sox prospect, and No. 95 in baseball overall, per MLB Pipeline, has a chance to break camp with the team in right field.
