Biggios had a backyard Wiffle Ball tourney
There's a little bit of talent there
The weather's getting warmer, so it's likely you'll see Wiffle Ball games happening in your neighborhood. Maybe it's your neighbor Johnny across the street tossing balls to himself, or maybe it's some eye-popping, devil-magic pitching contest at the local park. But what if you stumbled upon a family of baseball royalty casually holding their own backyard tournament?
As ESPN's Heather Dinich reports, that's what the Biggio family did during the COVID quarantine. Hall of Famer Craig, his wife Patty, their son and current Blue Jays second baseman Cavan, their eldest son and former Notre Dame outfielder Conor, and their daughter Quinn, current softball player for the Fighting Irish.
One rule was that they weren't allowed to hit homers over the roof, but, when a family has that much talent, restrictions like that go out the window.
"Our neighbors would be walking their dogs and see balls flying over the house," Quinn told ESPN.com.
They hit so many homers that they actually ran out of balls and had to knock on neighbor's doors to see if "they could go in their yard and look in their trees."
Imagine Craig Biggio knocking on your front door asking to retrieve a Wiffle Ball he hit into your yard?
The family also has a batting cage on their property and Craig threw to Cavan and Quinn while they were staying at home for a few months. Quinn, a versatile fielder and pinch-hit home run extraordinaire for the Irish, said her dad, Cavan and Conor are all helpful in helping perfect her swing, but her mom is the best teacher.
"She might not know how to explain it," Quinn said. "But she knows exactly what you're doing wrong."
Check out the entire ESPN story here, and I think next offseason, we need a Biggio-Bichette-Guerrero round-robin Wiffle Ball tournament.
