Reds sign right-hander Lively to Minors deal
CINCINNATI -- The Reds brought back a pitcher who began his career in the organization when right-hander Ben Lively was signed to a Minor League contract on Thursday. Lively, 29, was invited to big league camp as a non-roster player.
Cincinnati originally selected Lively in the fourth round of the 2013 Draft. On Dec. 31, 2014, he was traded to the Phillies for outfielder Marlon Byrd. Lively made 20 starts for the Phillies from 2017-18. His last big league service was six relief appearances for the Royals from 2018-19.
In 26 career Major League games, Lively is 4-10 with a 4.80 ERA.
Lively spent the last three seasons pitching in Korea for the KBO’s Samsung club and was 10-12 with a 4.14 ERA in 36 starts.
The Reds are slated to have 12 non-roster players at Spring Training this year.
