Former catcher Davis hired to be Phillies TV analyst

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Comcast SportsNet has tapped Ben Davis to replace Jamie Moyer as a color analyst in the Phillies broadcast booth.

Davis and Matt Stairs will split games as analysts, like Moyer and Stairs did last season.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ben, a former Major League catcher and Delaware County native, to our Phillies broadcast team," Comcast SportsNet president Brian Monihan said in a statement.

"Ben is a true student of the game and has provided valuable insight to our Phillies pre- and postgame coverage. We are confident in Ben's ability to inform and entertain fans with his distinctive analysis and easygoing style during our game broadcasts."

Moyer left the booth after one season to spend more time with his family on the West Coast. Davis will join Tom McCarthy, Stairs and Gregg Murphy on TV. Mike Schmidt is expected to return to the booth. He broadcast only Sunday home games last season.

Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen and Jim Jackson will be on radio.

Davis, the second overall pick in the 1995 First-Year Player Draft out of Malvern Prep, played seven seasons in the big leagues with the Padres, Mariners and White Sox. He had been working pregame and postgame Phillies shows on Comcast the past four seasons.

Comcast had narrowed its choices to Davis and Kevin Stocker, the former Phillies' shortstop who works with Pac-12 Network.
